Law enforcement has come under increasing pressure to become more transparent with police actions. Video recordings of police interactions with individuals date back to the early ’90s with police vehicles equipped with in-car video cameras. As technology advances, so does law enforcement agencies’ need to stay in front of the changing environment. Digital video and the officer body-worn cameras are ab integral part of investigations, accountability, and law enforcement transparency. During this course, participants will pursue a detailed understanding of the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of digital video and the human factors present public and law enforcement interactions.

The course will present law enforcement concepts and explore human factors to increase the understanding and knowledge of the technology behind Body-Worn Cameras (BWCs) and the dichotomy between digital and human witnesses. Participants will learn relevant professional expertise and scientific research to apply human factors principles while gaining a deeper understanding of digital video technology to promote more thorough investigations.
