Are you a new or aspiring company officer? What level of ownership have you taken to develop your team? Are you challenging yourself? Are you challenging your people?
The company officer cannot remain static as it relates to company development. To simply sit back and assume that firefighters have attained a level of operational proficiency that readies them for the next call is a recipe for failure. Operational excellence is attained though ownership at the company level. The State Fire Academy or the Departmental Training Division should not be the sole agencies in developing company proficiencies. The Company Officer must look introspectively at gaps in your company. Performance gaps open the door for Educational Opportunities. Educational Opportunities lead to greater company depth and increased Fireground Competence.
