DEFINITION The Fire Engineer will be assigned to work twenty-four (24) hour shifts, working a 48/96 schedule. The Fire Engineer will be responsible for “first-out” response to Fire and Emergency Medical Incidents, public education programs, pre-fire plan surveys, fire station maintenance, and Fire apparatus maintenance.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from the on – Duty Fire Suppression Supervisor – Captain.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Observe and follow safety rules and regulations including wearing safety apparel and devices during the course and scope of job-related duties.
- Report for duty on time and able to perform all job tasks.
- Must maintain physical fitness to perform all duties.
- Observe and follow the departments Policies and Standard Operating Guidelines.
- Treat sick and injured patients with dignity and respect.
- Perform all duties related to fire rescue, including connecting and carrying fire hoses, carrying and setting up ladders, directing water and chemicals on burning structures, vegetation, vehicle, and other objects.
- Ventilate buildings and conduct salvage operations.
- Rescue persons trapped in vehicles, burning buildings, and other structures.
- Operate and drive emergency vehicles and equipment.
- Inspect equipment and supplies daily in order to ensure that all emergencies can be handled. Restock supplies.
- Clean apparatus, equipment, and the Stations.
- Attend and complete all training as required.
- Complete all Fire Reports before the end of shift.
- Assist with Fire Prevention, Smoke Detector Installation, Pre-plans, and any other customer service-based expectations as defined by LPFD.
- Complete records of work performed and submits reports to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain regular required attendance and required certifications.
- Report to work on time and prepared to perform daily tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED (associate degree preferred).
- A minimum of two years active experience in a municipal fire department.
- Valid Texas Class B Driver’s License
- Possess a current certification as a Basic firefighter (or higher level) by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (“TCFP”).
- Possess a current Driver Operator Certification by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (“TCFP”) or the ability to obtain certification within one year.
- Possess a current Hazmat Technician Certification by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (“TCFP”) or the ability to obtain certification within one year.
- Possess a current certification of TCFP Instructor I (or higher level) by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (“TCFP”) or the ability to obtain when eligible.
- Hold minimum current certification as an EMT-Basic (or higher level) by the Texas Department of Health and Services.
- Must have NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications. (300 & 400 preferred)
- Pass a pre-employment medical examination, drug screen, and background check.
