From FDNY FB page:
“I became a priest because of
(FDNY) Father Mychal Judge. So, like we say in the Fire Department I was his
proby, he formed me, he was a mentor to me, he molded me. It was an
honor and a gift to be able to continue his work as Chaplain in the Fire
Department after he was taken from us on 9/11. I knew I was called to
do this. My relationship with the Fire Department family has been
special for me; it has allowed me to grow and mature both personally and
spiritually. When I had the grace of being commissioned, it was really a
battlefield appointment in the midst of the challenges of 9/11 that
faced the FDNY. I often remind the Firefighters, no greater love can any
person have than to give their life for a stranger. That really is the
essence of the Fire service,” says FDNY Chaplain Father Chris Keenan,
who retired this month after serving the Department for over 20 years.
FDNY wishes Father Keenan a very happy and healthy retirement.
