Meet Oxnard Police Officer Matthew Grey!
Officer Grey was born and raised in Northridge and graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. In his early years, he held several interesting jobs. He worked on cattle ranches, worked on a research boat, worked on fishing boats, and worked in the medical device field for several years. However, for as long as he can remember, he wanted to be a police officer.
A few years ago, he went on a ride-along with an Oxnard Police officer and he knew this was the place he wanted to finally begin his career in law enforcement. He filled out an application and joined the department in 2019. So far in his early career with Oxnard P.D., Matthew has worked Patrol and with the K9 Unit as a training decoy. He says, “I love being on patrol! Everyday is new, every call for service has its own challenges, and I'm always learning.”
He plans to continue to learn with aspirations of becoming a Field Training Officer and some day, a sergeant. Officer Grey is married with two young sons. He acknowledges the importance of having a strong support system in this career, saying, “I couldn't have reached my dream of becoming a police officer without my wife!” On his days off, he loves to relax and spend time with family. He says, “I love fishing and camping! My favorite thing to do is go camping at the beach with my family. It lets me do all of my favorite things, camping, fishing, bonfires, family, and teaching my kids how to fish. They are getting pretty good at it too!”
