On the afternoon of Tue, December 1, 2020, Charleston (WV) Police Officer Cassie Johnson was shot in the face while responding to a parking complaint.
After undergoing surgery and many hours in critical condition it was determined that Patrolman Cassie Johnson cannot sustain life on her own and the decision was made to remove her from life support.
CPD Chief James “Tyke” Hunt said, “She is still fighting, but her body is unable to sustain life by itself.”
Hunt says Johnson has “one final parting gift to help others.” She is an organ donor. He says doctors are working with her family to determine eligibility and work out donorship.
”I commend her for even in her passing, still being the true hero
that I know she is. And I just, I continue to, ask for the prayers for
Cassie Johnson and her family,” Hunt said.
Patrolman Johnson was an officer with CPD since January 2019. Prior to that Johnson worked as a Humane Officer for the department.
