VA and Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) are hosting the 40th National Veterans Wheelchair Games in New York City, August 8-13, 2021. Applications from eligible Veterans interested in competing may be completed online at www.wheelchairgames.org, and the application period is open now through April 2.
“The National Veterans Wheelchair Games represent VA’s commitment to our injured Veterans from the moment they begin recovery and rehabilitation to remaining active and independent through adaptive sports,” said Dave Tostenrude, VA’s director of the National Veterans Wheelchair Games. “This year will be special as we celebrate 40 years of supporting Veterans through the Games and honoring their unstoppable drive and determination.”
The National Veterans Wheelchair Games is a sports and rehabilitation program for military Veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition due to spinal cord injuries, amputations or other neurological conditions. Each year, hundreds of Veterans travel from around the country to compete in the Games, the world’s largest annual multi-sport wheelchair competition for Veterans.
Veterans will compete in more than 20 events, including: adaptive e-Sports, adaptive fitness, air pistol and rifle, archery, basketball, boccia, bowling, disc golf, field events, hand cycling, nine-ball, power soccer, wheelchair rugby, slalom, softball, swimming, table tennis, and track. Athletes compete against others with similar athletic ability, competitive experience or age. Events will be held throughout New York City, including Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and the famous Rucker’s Park.
