Assistance needed for medical bills for Phil Mautz

Hello,

my name is Barbara Beckner Thompson

I have opened a GoFundMe account for Phil Mautz.

Phil is a Retired Senior Lieutenant from the Detroit Fire Department.

I set up the account to help pay for medical bills, therapy and support while he is out of work.

My friend Phil went to help a friend move his stepdaughter from Ohio to Michigan on 12/14/22, While carrying a box down some outdoor stairs, he suffered a fall, causing a traumatic knee injury. He suffered a complete tear of the Left quadriceps muscle from the top of the patella above his Left knee.

This required surgery and will involve physical therapy when he’s able and of course, he will be off work for several months.

Phil is a Federal Disaster Response Paramedic working with the National Disaster Medical System for the past 22 years responding to disasters all over the country and has spent the last 2 and 1/2 years working in hospitals across the country assisting with COVID and was awarded the Surgeon Generals COVID-19 Pandemic Civilian Service Medal for Exemplary Service to the nation. He has dedicated his life to making a career of helping others in their time of need. Unfortunately, now he needs our help.

Phil Mautz is a sweetheart I have known him since junior high school we both attended Riverview Community High School

He is not the sort of person that takes handouts. He has always been working in public safety, sometimes three jobs at a time.

He is currently living in Sebring, Florida as a caregiver for his parents, both

of whom have medical issues.

His mom is currently in remission with Philadelphia-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia and is on a daily chemo pill and just had 8 cardiac stents inserted.

His dad is blind and has Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinson’s disease

As I said, Phil has been my friend since junior high he is always willing to help anyone and give a hand up to those in need.

He has shared endless information with me regarding jobs, Education etc

He is always able to make me smile.

I have been through some difficult times being a survivor of physical and mental abuse, and he has been a lifesaver to me.
