Fire as a Weapon

Fire as a weapon.

Some basic points from my recent training session that some wanted me to share. Aside from a singular Burn Mass Casualty Incident, fire may be used as a ruse to stack first responders into tradition response only for the malevolent threat to conduct an unsuspecting ambush attack.

  • All members of your fire or paramedic teams must conduct an assessment on the way to the call to formulate if any anomalies exist
  • Consider ingress and egress to the site and any vulnerabilities. Identify an emergency evacuation to fit various ambush attacks
  • Consider advantageous ambush points for an aggressor
  • All first responders should understand the differences between “cover” and “concealment”. Immediately identify cover at all calls
  • Consider ambush attacks may take the form of a low signature attack (edged weapon) firearm, explosive, or vehicular attack
