    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
    Performs entry-level computer system support work within the agencies Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) Operations section. Work involves providing immediate and thorough technical support to internal and external customers for agency information technology systems in network and mainframe environments. Work is performed under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Coordinate and provide technical support in a 24/7 work environment, providing status updates on issues related to the use of the web based supported systems and a variety of other databases and monitors system outage & slowness.

    2. Respond to numerous inquiries via phone and email, to provide assistance, resolution, guidance, clarification and interpretation regarding a variety of subject areas.

    3. Provide impromptu training and instruction to internal and external agency personnel regarding various supported systems.

    4. Process large volume of record entries by researching and verifying the accuracy, completeness and compliance with National Crime Information Center/Texas Crime Information Center (NCIC/TCIC) rules, policies, and procedures by reviewing every individual record entry.

    5. Initiate and coordinate the resolution of operating problems and system failures with the Information Technology Division (IT), Operations Information Center (OIC), and/or vendor or Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) operations.

    6. Ensure requests are handled appropriately between originating and requesting agencies in accordance with NCIC policies, procedures and observance of prescribed time requirements.

    7. Initiate and compile correspondence and production records via CJIS website on a monthly basis through the NCIC of all active NCIC/TCIC record entries for required validation and purge transactions.

    8. Create, maintain, and utilize databases for managing data; validate agency records; compose monthly statistical reports on supported programs, records handled, and documentation relating to specific interactions with customers; and review reports.

    9. Process requests from the Department of Family and Protective Services for record entry of unlocated children/families into the Child Safety Check Alert List.

    10. Provide timely responses for Open Records Requests ensuring compliance with state statute.

    11. Assist user, i.e. password and user profile so they can access system, ensuring security of system and compliance with policy, procedures and rules.

    12. Provide operational assistance in implementation and use of Dept. software/user interface.

    13. Assist in rollout of new functionality and software upgrades to all Texas agencies.

    14. Attend work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.

    15. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

    Education – High School Diploma/equivalent.

    Experience – Minimum of one (1) years’ experience performing administrative or technical work involving NCIC/TCIC systems or other high volume electronic telecommunications environments and customer service in person, over the phone, or online.

    Licensure - Must hold or earn TCIC Full Access, TLETS Certification, TLETS Mobile Certification (DL and REG Only) and any other certifications essential to Control Room functions with the first six (6) months of employment. Operators must remain current on all courses of instruction/online certification related to TLETS/Nlets and TCIC/NCIC, recertifying every two (2) years.

    Regulatory knowledge – Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.

    Interpersonal Skills – Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.

    Organizational and Prioritization Skills – Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.

    Presentation/Communication Skills – Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.

    Research and Comprehension – Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information, and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.

    Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail – Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems.

    Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) – Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CJIS systems.

    Confidentiality and Protected Information – Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.

    Safety – Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices.

    Travel and/or Schedule – Availability for emergencies, after-hour, weekend, and holiday work is required.

    DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase up to 3.4%.

    Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
