Job Description
Full-time telecommunicator position. 40 hour week. Work includes weekends, holidays and overnight shifts.
The Telecommunicator is the public's primary point of contact when requesting a response by public safety resources. He/she promotes the Department's core values of integrity, respect and customer service without compromise.
This position receives 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and initiates the appropriate police, ambulance or fire response with the use of a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system. The ideal candidate has the ability to make quick decisions, coordinate multiple tasks at one time, and the ability to maintain control of a call; have the ability to remain calm, remain professional and even-tempered during emergency situations.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience
• Must be able to speak, read and write English.
• Must be able to communicate accurately in verbal and written form.
• Excellent listening and communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task with minimal direction.
• Ability to perform efficiently under extreme pressure.
• Previous experience in Fire/EMS or Law Enforcement environment
• Ability to carry out orders with precision and speed.
• Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately.
• Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
• Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
• Knowledgeable in county geopolitical boundaries, major highways and landmarks
• Previous experience in Fire/EMS or Law Enforcement environment
Qualifications:
• Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalency.
• No record of criminal convictions.
• Above average computer and typing skills.
• Valid Pennsylvania drivers license
• Able to work various shifts, rotating shifts, weekends and holidays**
** NOTE: This employee is considered "essential personnel" and will be required to
report for work regardless of weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to sit and stand for moderate periods of time.
• Occasionally may be required to do Light Level physical work that would include
reaching, pulling and lifting.
