Washington Township is devastated to share that Lieutenant Jeff Guernsey has passed away on December 3, 2020 from complications due to COVID-19. Lt. Guernsey has been with the Washington Township Fire Department since the start of his career in 1990. He is survived by his wife and four children.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Guernsey family. Their grief is unimaginable and our hearts go out to them,” says Jesse Lightle, Township Administrator. Lt. Guernsey was a proud member of the US Armed Forces and served in the Navy. He also served on the Washington Township honor guard and was a dedicated member of the fire department, the community, and most importantly, he was wholly dedicated to his family and work family. Never one to miss a game or competition, Jeff worked hard to make sure that his children’s sporting needs were met and was their most enthusiastic supporter. He was passionate about traveling and loved visiting new places and sharing those experiences with his family.
“Washington Township has lost a truly remarkable person. Jeff could make any of us smile. He was never happier than when talking about his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was an incredible friend and colleague and words can’t express how much we will all miss him,” says Scott Kujawa, Fire Chief.
As we all grieve the loss of one of our community members, our deepest sympathies remain with the entire Guernsey family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy during this time.
