2020 Hurricane season news and updates

    This main post will be updated often with various storm news and updates for 2020 in below section as well as in the comments below.

    We sometimes will spin off major hurricanes into new discussions in this group so watch for updates and links. And sometimes we delete comments so visitors don't have to read through too many comments.

    Atlantic storms typically get the most coverage since they impact many people and land masses across the Atlantic ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.

    Sometimes Pacific storms affect the southwestern U.S. and Hawaiian and other pacific island chains so please share the resources below with others and check back often for news and updates.

  • 14-Sep-2020 10a CT - NHC is issuing advisories on 5 tropical cyclones over the Atlantic basin today. This ties the record that was set in September 1971. (Storms = Hurricane Paulette, near Bermuda; Tropical Depression Rene; Tropical Storm Sally, in Gulf of Mexico; Tropical Storm Teddy; and Tropical Storm Vicky -- more above) ~ j

  • 15-Sep-2020 5p CT - NHC continues to issue advisories on 4 tropical cyclones over the Atlantic basin - Hurricane Paulette, Hurricane Sally in the Gulf; Tropical Storm Teddy and Tropical Storm Vicky + 3 other systems are being closely watched. More in main post and #staysafe all ~ j

  • 16-Sep-2020 8p CT - Tropical Storm Sally is about 70 miles (110 km) WNW of Dothan, AL moving NE near 7 mph (11 km/h). On the forecast track, the center will move across SE Alabama tonight, over central Georgia Thu, and over South Carolina Thu night. Sally has produced storm totals of 10 to 20 inches, with isolated amounts of 30-35 inches, from the Florida Panhandle west of Tallahassee to Mobile Bay, Alabama. Historic and catastrophic flooding, including widespread moderate to major river flooding, will continue across this region. Additional rainfall of 1 to 4 inches is possible across the Florida Panhandle from Tallahassee to the Apalachicola River. More in main post and stay safe out there ~ j

  • 19-Sep-2020 - Heads up those along TX and LA Gulf coasts since NHC is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Beta ... and they're watching Hurricane Teddy and on Tropical Storm Wilfred. (ICYMI, the Atlantic storm names have run out and we are now into Greek names. A storm system called Alpha went across the pond and impacted Portugal and Spain (more in main post.) stay safe ~ j
