Meet Oxnard Police Officer Michael Cole!
Michael was born and raised in Ventura, where he graduated from Buena High. In high school, he was very active in athletics, playing football, basketball, baseball, and track & field. He then attended Ventura College and transferred to National University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management. After school, he worked for the City of Ventura with the Parks and Recreation Department, coaching youth sports camps. He also worked for Best Buy as a customer service representative and supervisor before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Marine Corps Infantry for four years and was deployed to Iraq twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Growing up, Michael never wanted to be anything other than a police officer. His father and grandfather were law enforcement officers, and he has always been drawn to the service of others. Michael says, “It is what I feel God meant for me to do. I am blessed with the ability to provide safety to those who are unable to defend themselves and bring others who seek to victimize others to justice.” In 2010, at the conclusion of his military service, Michael joined the Oxnard Police Department, a decision he’s been very happy with. According to Michael, “My favorite part about being a police officer for the City of Oxnard is helping those in need: responding to someone in crisis and providing the exceptional service expected from Oxnard Police Officers.”
Officer Cole is currently working in patrol as a Field Training Officer. His current collateral assignments include: Defensive Tactics Instructor, Force Options Instructor, Baton Instructor, Less Lethal Impact Munitions Instructor, First Aid Instructor, Drug Recognition Expert, and Peer Support Team member. Of these assignments, Michael says, “Field Training Officer is my favorite thus far. I love to teach and coach. I take pride in bearing the responsibility of molding the future of The Oxnard Police Department. I am honored to have to have these opportunities to share my knowledge. My future goals are to eventually become a field supervisor, where I can continue to influence the future of the Oxnard Police Department.”
Michael is married to his high school sweetheart, Ashley, and they have four daughters, ages nine, seven, five, and two. He spends his time off with his family, while attempting to find time to explore the outdoors and work out. He actually coached CrossFit for many years and still enjoys assisting others in their fitness goals. He is currently working on his Masters Degree in Public Administration.
