Friday, Firefighters in the Chicagoland area suburban community of Arlington Heights were on scene operating when a garbage truck exploded, injuring Firefighters, Police Officers - damaging several homes and apparatus.
Arlington Heights FD members responded to a report that a garbage truck was on fire. Engine 2’s crew reported fire showing from the rear of a garbage truck on arrival. Extra fire companies were also assigned because of the concern that the garbage truck involved was powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
As they sized it up, the truck exploded. Two Police Officers and one Firefighter were injured by flying debris and post-blast concussion.
