We regret to pass on that a 25-year-old Honolulu Firefighter died in the Line of Duty, and several other members were hospitalized last night while responding to what became a 3-alarm building fire in McCully.

Members responded to a fire at a two-story residential building on Young Street, just off the Punahou Street intersection, at around 1942 hours.

A mayday call was transmitted just before 2000 hours after 2 Firefighters were declared missing.

One firefighter was able to make his way out, but not long after, a partial roof collapse was reported in one of the building's back corners.

At 2024 hours Firefighters were able to extricate the second missing Firefighter.

Fire Chief Sheldon “Kalani” Hao confirmed one of the firefighters died, a “young man, very tragic.” He had been with the department for a year and a half. The other Firefighters are being held in the hospital overnight.

Much more to follow. our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
