Meet Oxnard Police Department Community Service Officer Roy Aguirre! C.S.O. Aguirre was born in Brunswick, Maine. His father was a Navy Seabee, which brought his family to Oxnard when Roy was just one year old. He attended Hathaway Elementary School, Blackstock Jr. High School, Channel Islands High School, U.C.S.B. (Pre Med), and Ventura College before he graduated with a B.A. in Literature and Writing from California State University at San Marcos. After college, he worked in Accounting at a Logistics Company in Oxnard for 5 years until he was hired as a Traffic Service Assistant with the Oxnard Police Department in 2007. According to Roy, “I liked the fact that it was a local and stable job within the City of Oxnard. I liked the idea of working outdoors each day with the community I grew up in. I have firsthand experience with helping my neighbors and don’t have to be behind a desk all the time.”

After serving as a T.S.A., Aguirre promoted to Community Service Officer, where he was able to work concurrently with our Bureau of Investigations for a time. He says one of the highlights of his job is working with his peers and supervisors. “They make it a pleasure to come to work each day,” he says. “My favorite thing about my job is that I get to handle calls for service similar to our officers. Each day has its unique challenge. I truly get the sense of accomplishment and appreciation when I help someone with a crime report. In our own way, C.S.O.’s help the public and patrol when we take reports for certain crimes. One of our main goals is to support patrol officers so they can focus their efforts on more serious crimes. I like that my job as a C.S.O. has collateral opportunities to help out with other units at the Police Department, like the Family Protection Unit, Violent Crimes Unit, Major Crimes, Gangs, Graffiti, Body Worn Cameras, and Court Liaison to expand our skill levels and experience.

”On days off, he loves spending time with his wife, Faye and daughter, Izabelle. They love watching movies, traveling, trying new cuisines and places to eat (he thanks his wife for that interest), playing video games, and playing with his dog Skye. Not many of his friends know it, but Roy also loves to cook! Though, he admits, “It is not as often as I would like, but I think I do pretty well.”
