In 1980 he graduated from the National Fire Academy and was appointed to the U.S. Fire Administration Region 6 Representative, He then became a Master Firefighter in Instructor 1 and 2, Fire Inspection- Prevention, , Arson Investigation, Fire Officer Tactics, Tactical Rescue, Haz-Mat, Crash Fire Rescue (CFR), USAR.
