We regret to pass on that a nearly 30-year veteran with the Chicago Fire Department died early this morning after a beam fell onto him during an alley garage fire on the West Side.

CFD identified the Firefighter as Captain David Meyer, 54, who served on Engine 96 and Truck 29. Chicago Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt said Captain Meyer served 28 years on the job, and he leaves behind a wife, th… Moreree daughters, and a son.

Initial reports are that they were operating at that alley garage fire, and while operating, a large beam came down and struck the Captain, resulting in his Line of Duty Death.

There are currently 6 wildfires burning in NWFL. N. Walton 108 acres/90% contained, 2 in E. Walton 40 acres/50% contained & 50 acres/75% contained, In E. Bay Co... Nadine Rd. in 17 acres/80% contained, Hauser Rd. 30 acres/75% contained, & Clayton Rd. 162 acres/90% contained.

We regret to pass on that a Firefighter with the South Jordan (Utah) Fire Department died on duty. Crews found the man just after 1400 on Monday, in his room at Fire Station 61.

Members started life saving measures and the Firefighter was transported to Jordan Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest in peace.

NORTH CAROLINA FIRE CHIEF DIES FROM OCCU… MorePATIONAL CANCER

Sad news from North Carolina as Fire Chief Michael Scott of the Sunny Point Fire Department (military facility south of Wilmington in Brunswick County) passed away Sunday night. He was 51 years old. The nearby Southport Fire Station will host a celebration of Chief Scott’s life on Saturday morning at 1000 hours.

Chief Scott had been battling cancer, his friend Southport Fire Chief Charles Drew said, and his death is being characterized as a “line-of-duty death” dues to Firefighter occupational cancer presumption. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest in peace. Less

=UPDATE: OHIO FIREFIGHTER BURNED*

That Convoy, Ohio, Firefighter is scheduled to undergo surgery today for third-degree burns he suffered while operating at a house fire last week.

FF Chaise Dawson is currently in Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis with third-degree burns on his right arm and shoulder, back, neck, and ear. His wife stated that he is still in good spirits, but is very nervous about th… Moree upcoming procedure. Skin grafting will be done in Monday morning’s surgery. You can see his PPE at the bottom of this newsletter.

Convoy’s department was called last Tuesday morning to a house fire in the 4500 block of Lare Road, Tully Township, in Van Wert County.

While Dawson and another Convoy Firefighter, Jake Hicks, were inside the structure, the fire flashed, injuring both Firefighters. Hicks was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital. and Dawson was rushed to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, then on to the Indianapolis hospital’s burn center.

“During his skin assessment they determined his capillaries under his skin are severely damaged and because of this they are rising to the surface of his skin,” his wife Olivia Dawson said. “This is not good, and the only way to repair the damaged skin is surgery. He is scheduled to have surgery Monday(today) morning. It will be a skin graft.”
