Officer Hartman was born in San Francisco and his family moved to Oxnard in 1986. He attended Mar Vista Elementary School, Ocean View Junior High, and Oxnard High School. He continued his education with an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts at Ventura College, then transferred to Cal State Long Beach where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Film and Video Production with a minor in Philosophy.
His first job was a martial arts instructor for children at Sasaki's Kenpo Karate Studio. During his college years, he worked for Nakamura Farms at the Santa Monica Farmer's Market. After school, he worked on various film sets, including Transformers, Shoot Em Up, and Pushing Twilight (Red Bull Studios). He went on to work for motion picture companies Red Digital Studios (Lakeforest) and AbelCine (Burbank). Throughout his career in Entertainment, law enforcement stayed in the back of his mind. Andreas remembers, “When I taught martial arts to children, a lot of the parents were teachers, firefighters, police officers, etc. I got to know them well and kept in touch with them throughout college. I got accepted into the Verdugo Fire Academy in 2012 but got injured and had to resign my position. A good friend who had Oxnard P.D. contacts reached out to me. I did a ride along and saw how much I could give back and make a difference in my hometown, and I was all-in on wanting to pursue a career in law enforcement.”
Officer Hartman joined the Oxnard Police Department in 2014. Over the past eight years, he has worked in patrol, with collateral assignments as: Field Training Officer, Defensive Tactics (DETAC), OXPD Dive Team, Axon Body Worn Camera Committee, Honor Guard, and the Recruitment Team. According to Andreas, “My favorite assignment has been as a Field Training Officer because it is rewarding to see a new patrol officer learn the knowledge and skills of what it takes to be a patrol officer in Oxnard. I get to teach new patrol officers the fundamentals and lessons that were taught to me by my Field Training Officers. It's gratifying to be able to pass that information onto the next generation of Oxnard Police Officers. My favorite thing about the job is that I feel like I'm giving back to the community that helped shape me to be the person I am today. My mother was a junior high school teacher for over thirty years at Ocean View Junior High School. I grew up in the south end of Oxnard. I had so many influential teachers that challenged me to be the best I could be. When I patrol the city of Oxnard and have an opportunity to make a positive impact on someone in the community, it feels like I'm contributing to a community that gave so much to me.”
His favorite thing to do on days off is spend time with his wife and their three children, ages 9, 8, and 6. They love going to the beach, camping, and surfing. He coaches his sons in baseball and teaches them at the same karate studio he started at when he, himself, was a kid. FUN FACT: During his years as an assistant camera operator, he got to work on the sidelines of an NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants. He remembers, “It was definitely a really awesome experience.”
