It is with profound heartache that I personally pass on to you that my close family friend and professional mentor since the early '80s, Chief Jack McElfish, passed away from cancer earlier today. Jack was diagnosed early this year following a lifelong (50+ years) career as a decorated Firefighter, Fire Officer, and Fire Chief in Maryland, Connecticut, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.
A friend and mentor to so many of us, among his many other professional accomplishments included being a proud US Air Force Veteran and a lifelong Rotarian.
His personal pride? Spend one minute with him and you would instantly know it was his wife, daughter, and his beloved grandson - who knew him as "Chief."
While still living in Georgia, he and his wife were visiting their daughter and grandson in Colorado this past Christmas season when he was diagnosed with advanced-stage cancer. Jack (and his wife) remained out there for what would be a very difficult battle and related treatments. Thank God he is now at peace, as much as his passing hurts us all.
More to follow. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Condolences to everyone who knew and loved Jack, especially his family including his daughter Kelly, grandson Jack, and his wife Joyce.
Rest In Peace Jackie.
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass It On.
