FLORIDA FIREFIGHTER Dies From Occupational Cancer

Posted by Capt. Lewis - April 29, 2023 6:28 PM

We regret to pass on that Pasco County Fire Rescue Firefighter/EMT Jason Tucker (medically retired) died on Sunday, April 23, 2023, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He passed on peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his wife, Wendy, and son Austin, 24 years old, and has proceeded in death by his daughter Kendall.

His work with the agency's Special Operations Team and Decon programs showed his passion for helping others and dedication to changing the conversation about occupational cancer to save firefighters' lives. His devoted work involving cancer prevention in the fire service will pave the way for future generations of firefighters throughout the industry and, in the process, save countless lives.

Even through his final days, Firefighter Jason Tucker continued to visit with our new-hire classes to teach the next generation of firefighters the importance of cancer prevention.

He also attended public events throughout his treatment to speak on his illness, sometimes having his close friend Senior Firefighter Chris Kempton, read his words when he couldn't physically speak. While words cannot express our heavy hearts or profound loss, we ask everyone to remember Firefighter Jason Tucker by exemplifying his life, courage, and honorable service.

The full firefighter honors funeral for Jason Tucker will be held next Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Generations Christian Church located at 1540 Little Rd, New Port Richey, FL 34655. Those attending should plan on arriving at 10:00 AM to honor Firefighter Tucker, with further details to come later this week.

If you are planning to attend the celebration of Firefighter Tucker's life with fire apparatus, please reach out to our DC of Operations, Shawn Whited, by email at SWhited@MyPasco.net .In place of flowers, the Tucker family requests donations be made to the Pasco County Fire Rescue Benevolent Association at the following link: https://bit.ly/JasonTucker

Pasco County Fire Rescue administration has activated the CISM and Clergy Teams to provide any needed support for our firefighters. We ask our colleagues to watch out for one another during these trying times and to reach out if someone is struggling. Firefighter Jason Tucker touched many lives through his 19 years of service at Pasco County Fire Rescue, and all who knew him will deeply miss his presence.

Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
