Posted by Fyre Walker - May 23, 2022 8:46 PM

A pumper-tanker from Arlington Fire and Rescue (NW of Winston-Salem) was totaled in a crash on I-77 in North Carolina this afternoon after being struck by a semi. Arlington was dispatched to assist West Yadkin at the time of the incident.

West Yadkin VFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on I-77 north bound near the 75 mile marker at approximately 1432 hours. Arlington Fire and Rescue was dispatched at the same time for mutual aid. West Yadkin arrived on scene first and canceled the other responding units. Shortly after canceling all units West Yadkin asked Yadkin County Communications to have Arlington respond to I-77 north bound and assist in merging traffic into one lane at the request of Highway Patrol.

Arlington unit 1605, which is a pumper tanker, did as directed. It was approximately one half mile back from the first crash, parked, when it was struck from behind and to the left side of the vehicle. Major damage occurred to the fire apparatus and to the tractor trailer that struck it. The Fire Engineer in the apparatus was treated and transported to a local hospital. The driver of the tractor trailer refused medical treatment and or transportation. I-77 north bound was completely blocked due to the debris from the fire truck crash for several hours.
