Paramedic Killed2

A Paramedic (also a Firefighter) was killed in the Line of Duty Friday in a head-on collision involving an ambulance that was transporting a passenger in Arkansas. A civilian in the other car was killed as well.

The crash happened at 1026 hours Friday on State Highway 18 at the intersection of Highway 158 in Lake City.

Janet Chapman was eastbound when her car crossed the center lane and began traveling in the inside westbound lane. She was killed.

Chapman’s car collided head-on with a westbound ambulance driven by EMT Cheri Gibson of Paragould, Arkansas.

EMT Gibson’s husband, Mark, who was the Paramedic on the ambulance, died in the crash.

EMT Gibson and the ambulance’s patient were seriously injured in the crash. Emerson Ambulance Service confirmed Friday afternoon that one of their vehicles was involved in the crash.

The West Memphis Fire Department, where Mark Gibson served for nearly 30 years, also asked for prayers for his wife Cheri Gibson and the couple’s extended family.

“Keep Cheri in your thoughts and prayers as she recovers from her serious injuries and begins her path of healing, the Gibson extended family as they work through their grief, and the family of the other victims of today’s tragedy as they, too, process their grief,” the fire department said.

Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
