On August 27, 2020 Hurricane Laura made landfall near the Louisiana and Texas borders with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph, making it one of the most powerful storms to hit eastern LA and becoming the first Category 4 hurricane to make landfall since Betsy in 1965. Entire neighborhoods were also left in ruins and officials say it may take weeks or months to restore utilities to many areas.
