Tragically the wife and the newborn twins of Rutland Firefighter Patrick Sullivan have passed away.
Pat Sullivan, who served the town of Rutland (MA) as a dispatch supervisor and firefighter and EMT for 13 years, and his wife, Ciara, were expecting twins when she suffered a severe medical emergency 2 weeks ago.
Town officials said Ciara required intubation and the babies were delivered via emergency C-section on 16-Dec then they all spent days on vents / life support "with a grim prognosis" according to WCVB.
Ciara underwent an MRI to assess the possibility of brain damage but her condition and the condition of the twins were described by officials as "critical" on Christmas eve.
Tragically a few hours after Thursday (26-Dec) night's vigil, the Rutland Fire Department updated the community via Facebook with devastating news…
“Our hearts are shattered as we share the heartbreaking news that Ciara and babies will be taken off life support Friday. Please keep Pat and the entire family in your prayers during this unimaginably difficult time ... PAT, BUDDY, WE LOVE YOU AND WE STAND WITH YOU.”
On Saturday (28-Dec) RFD Chief announced the passing of Pat’s wife Ciara, age 30, along with their 11-day-old twins, James and Elizabeth…
Ciara was a dedicated public servant, having previously worked as a 911 dispatcher and currently serving as an Emergency Management Specialist for FEMA. The Sullivan family would like to express their deepest, heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of love and generosity during this difficult time. We kindly ask that you consider making a donation through the PFFM Charitable Foundation.
Pat wrote on his FB page after the loss of his beloved wife and twins...
“… Ciara is the most compassionate person i have ever met. She’s not a 911 dispatcher, she’s not an emergency management specialist, she’s not “ just a firefighters wife” as apparently people keep saying. Her “job” as a firefighters wife is one that I think most people don’t understand. It entails being alone, it entails her husband maybe never coming home. It entails me AND her having to deal with silent wars only she knows about with compassion and love on a level only a firefighters wife knows how to use. It entails so many things not a single person on the outside could ever imagine. And she did so the best she could possibly do, and I thank her for that. I thanked her for that every day I walked back through the front doors. She is the single greatest, most loving, most compassionate person who has ever walked this horrible planet.
The “labels” that matter to me are mother, wife, best friend, partner. Those are the things that are important.”
