WICHITA (KS) FIREFIGHTER LODD AT HOUSE FIRE

Posted by Fyre Walker - August 01, 2024 8:23 PM

We regret to pass on that a Firefighter with the Wichita FD has died in the Line of Duty following a mutual aid working house fire, south of Wichita this afternoon. Shortly before 1500 hours, in 100-degree heat, companies were dispatched to the 9800 block of S. Laura in Sedgwick County. Crews from Sedgwick County Fire, Derby Fire, McConnell AFB Fire, and Wichita Fire responded to the call. The fire was under control quickly, and the Firefighter was the only one injured in the incident. Reports are that the Firefighter was transported in extremely critical condition but it is yet unknown if it was from an injury or if it was a medical emergency.

Time-wise, Firefighters responded at 1455 hours and the Firefighter was rushed to the hospital after becoming unresponsive and died at 1522 hours.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Fire and Tobacco, Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Sedgwick County Fire are investigating the incident.

Much more to follow. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest in Peace.
